What did the safety review cover?

The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) assessed nano hydroxyapatite made of rod-shaped, uncoated particles of a stated size and concluded it is safe in toothpaste at up to 29.5% and in mouthwash at up to 10% (opinion SCCS/1677/25, adopted June 26, 2025). It does not apply to material with needle-shaped particles. It considered toothpaste swallowed by accident while brushing, not swallowing it on purpose. An earlier opinion, from 2023, set lower limits for a different submission. The opinion does not test or approve any finished toothpaste, including ours. Hydroxyapatite itself has been used in toothpaste in Japan since 1993.

What should I check on the tube?

Look for age, amount and supervision directions. Ask about anything the label leaves unclear, including what to do if your child struggles to spit.

Using toothpaste with little ones

Whatever toothpaste you choose, its directions matter most. Tooth Wizard Strawberry is made for kids and lists every ingredient. Young children swallow some toothpaste while they learn to spit, so use the amount the tube directs (a pea-sized amount for Tooth Wizard) and put it on the brush yourself.
