What Poison Control advises

Do not make your child vomit. Poison Control says swallowed toothpaste can upset the stomach, with nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Have the tube with you when you call, so you can read the product name and ingredients, and say how much you think was swallowed and when. They will tell you whether anything needs to be done.

What is in Tooth Wizard

Tooth Wizard is fluoride-free. Its cleanser is sodium cocoyl glutamate, and it is sweetened with xylitol, sorbitol, mannitol and rebaudioside A. The full ingredient list is on our ingredients page. The tube in your hand is the best source, because it lists exactly what is in that batch. Being fluoride-free does not make swallowing it harmless, so call either way if you are unsure.

A note for dog owners

Tooth Wizard contains xylitol, which is dangerous to dogs. If your dog gets into a tube, call your veterinarian right away and keep the packaging.

Teaching the spit

Most toddlers swallow some toothpaste while they learn. Use the amount your tube directs (a pea-sized amount for Tooth Wizard), put it on the brush yourself, and make spitting a game you do together: you spit, they spit. Keep the tube out of reach after brushing.
