Tooth Wizard questions
Choosing a flavor
Does Strawberry contain mint?
We don’t call it either way. The Strawberry package label names no peppermint, spearmint or wintergreen oil, but it lists “Flavor” without a breakdown. If your child has to avoid mint, ask us before you order.
Which flavor should I choose?
Vanilla Mint is cool mint softened with vanilla, for grown-ups and families. Strawberry is sweet strawberry, made for kids. Most families pick one of each, which is why the Family Pack is one Vanilla Mint and one Strawberry.
Can grown-ups use Strawberry, and kids use Vanilla Mint?
Yes. Flavor is a preference: some grown-ups like Strawberry’s sweetness, and kids who love mint often reach for Vanilla Mint. Both tubes give the same directions: a pea-sized amount, brushed gently for 2 minutes.
Ingredients and safety
What is nano-hydroxyapatite?
Hydroxyapatite is the calcium phosphate mineral that makes up most of tooth enamel. The kind in toothpaste is made in a lab as very fine particles, which is what nano means. Tooth Wizard contains 10% nano-hydroxyapatite. Hydroxyapatite has been used in toothpaste in Japan since 1993.
Is nano-hydroxyapatite safe?
The European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety reviewed it and concluded in 2023 that nano-hydroxyapatite is safe in toothpaste at up to 10%, for rod-shaped, uncoated particles. More on the safety review.
How does hydroxyapatite compare with fluoride?
In two randomized trials, a 10% hydroxyapatite toothpaste did about as well as a fluoride toothpaste on the outcomes measured, one in children aged 3 to 7 and one in adults. Neither tested Tooth Wizard, and fluoride remains the most studied toothpaste ingredient. The children’s trial used microcrystalline hydroxyapatite, and the adult trial’s methods do not establish particle size. Read the details.
Does Tooth Wizard contain fluoride?
No. Both flavors are fluoride-free and made with 10% nano-hydroxyapatite.
Is there sugar in it?
No. It is sweetened with xylitol, sorbitol, mannitol and rebaudioside A from the stevia leaf.
Why doesn’t it foam much?
We use sodium cocoyl glutamate, a mild cleanser made from coconut, instead of sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). It makes a soft foam rather than a mouthful of bubbles. You do not need extra paste.
What color is the paste?
We don’t add dyes, so each paste keeps the soft natural shade of its ingredients. It won’t be bright white, striped or bright pink.
Is Lactobacillus ferment a live probiotic?
No. It is an ingredient made by fermenting with lactobacillus cultures, not a live culture.
Is it safe around pets?
Keep it away from dogs. Tooth Wizard contains xylitol, which is dangerous to dogs. If your dog gets into a tube, call your veterinarian right away.
Brushing with kids
How much toothpaste should I use?
A pea-sized amount, as the tube directs. Brush gently for 2 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day, spit out the extra and don’t rinse afterward. The tube doesn’t give a separate amount by age, so if you have a question about your child, ask their dentist.
What if my child swallows some?
A little is common while kids learn to spit. Use the amount shown on the tube, put it on the brush yourself, and make spitting part of the game. If your child swallows more than a brushing amount of any toothpaste, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. How to teach spitting.
When should my child first see a dentist?
By the first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth. What to expect.
Can I bring it on a plane?
Yes. A full tube is 3 oz (90 ml), under TSA’s 3.4 oz (100 ml) carry-on limit.
