Ask what bothers them

Ask one question at a time. Try “Is it the taste?” or “Does the brush hurt?” If brushing causes pain, bleeding or ongoing distress, speak with your child’s dentist.

Let them choose the brush or the song

Offer a choice between two suitable brushes, or let them pick the brushing song. You still need to help with the brushing itself.

Check for mint, even in fruit flavors

Fruit-flavored toothpaste can still contain mint oils, so read the label. The Strawberry package label names no mint oil, but it lists “Flavor” without a breakdown, so we don’t call it mint-free. If your child has to avoid mint, ask us before you order.

Try the same order each time

Use the same place and sequence: get the brush, add the amount directed on the tube, brush together, then spit. If the struggle continues, tell your dentist which part is difficult.
