Look at the bristles

Splayed, bent or flattened bristles do not reach the gumline well. If a brush looks tired before three months, swap it. A good habit is to replace everyone’s brush on the same day each season.

Store brushes so they dry

The ADA suggests rinsing the brush with tap water after brushing and storing it upright to air dry. Keep brushes in a holder apart from each other, and avoid routinely covering them or keeping them in closed containers, which hold moisture.

One brush per person

Sharing a toothbrush means sharing germs. Give each family member their own brush, and a different color for each child makes mix-ups less likely.
